Maurice Pogoda, President & Founder

Maurice founded Pogoda Companies in 1987 and has since established it as a leading name in the self-storage industry. As President and Founder, he oversees all company operations and has built a team of skilled professionals to support its growth. Under his leadership, Pogoda Companies has become nationally recognized, brokering nearly $1 billion in storage property sales, managing and/or owning over 150 storage facilities, building or renovating over 20 properties, and raising over $250 million from private investors to fund storage property acquisitions. The company consistently ranks among the top 30 storage management firms in the U.S.

Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Maurice earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and holds an MBA in marketing and finance from the University of Michigan.

Early in his career, Maurice worked as a Brand Manager at Lever Brothers in Manhattan, managing popular consumer brands like Wisk, Dove, Snuggle, and Concentrated All. After moving to Michigan in 1985, he transitioned into real estate, initially working with an income property brokerage firm selling multi-family, retail, and office properties. In 1987, he launched Pogoda Companies to focus exclusively on the self-storage sector.

Throughout his career, Maurice has been widely recognized in the industry, with profiles in major self-storage publications as well as in Crain’s Detroit Business, Oakland Business Review, and Commercial Inc. He is a Hall of Fame inductee in the Self Storage Association of Michigan and a frequent speaker at industry conventions. Maurice has contributed to and been cited in numerous publications, helped found the Self Storage Association of Michigan, and served on the Self Storage Association Foundation Board of Governors.
